About

The historic San Diego Metro area includes all of Downtown and Uptown plus other neighborhoods near Balboa Park. Downtown comprises seven distinct districts: Columbia, Cortez Hill, East Village, Gaslamp Quarter, Little Italy, Marina, and the Core. Uptown plus the other primarily residential communities are known for beautiful historic homes built in Craftsman, Prairie, Spanish, Vernacular, and other styles.

Historic Districts

San Diego loves its architectural delights, and the City regularly designates old houses as new historic landmarks. Most of these gems — designed by San Diego’s premier architects — can be found in the Metro area. A significant concentration of historic properties is located within the designated and proposed historic districts, where many classic architectural styles are represented. A number of condo buildings in Uptown and Downtown are also designated historic. Owners of houses and condos with historic designation can save substantially on their property taxes.
